

FUN FUNKY DANCE FOR DISABLED AND NON-DISABLED PEOPLE 16+
Exciting new class in Stroud giving an opportunity for disabled and non-disabled people over the age of 16 the chance to learn to dance.
These will be fun, funky and lively dance classes giving an opportunity for the group to be creative within a safe environment
Gloucestershire Dance has been awarded the Diamond Jubilee Grant from Gloucestershire Association for Disability (GAD); the award will enable the charitable organisation to set up regular weekly dance classes in the Stroud District open to anyone in Gloucestershire, starting on September 10th 2009.
Louise Portlock, the Inclusion Manager states “Gloucestershire Dance has been developing its practice in dance and disability for 14 years and has numerous other projects running across the county that supports children young people and adults who have disabilities. We are delighted to have been awarded this grant to develop further opportunities for disabled people.”
The classes will be for people with and without disabilities and everyone will be welcome. “These sessions will provide a unique opportunity for residents of the Stroud District and beyond to express themselves through dance, in a way not seen in the district before” Hannah Drew, from Stroud District Council.
The sessions will be interactive, social, fun, creative and expressive and will encourage participants to work together in a physical environment. The workshop leaders are highly experienced in working a variety of different settings including mental health, care settings disability specific awareness and Further Education Colleges.
GAD’s Chairperson, Sandra Mutton said “We are so pleased to be able to support this worthwhile and important work that will enhance the lives of those it touches. It is our hope the Gloucestershire Dance will go from strength to strength helping the disabled community of Gloucestershire to live fitter, healthier and more enjoyable lives.”
