Children & Young People
BBC Children in Need Appeal has funded a three-year programme designed to develop dance for disabled young people across the county. It runs until August 2010.
In year one, Gloucestershire Dance worked with 1,254 disabled children and 12 schools, delivering 160 dance sessions. We ran 17 out-of-school clubs, play schemes and holiday workshops.
Aims of BBC Children-in-Need Award project:
- to deliver high-quality dance activity (including teacher training) in special schools and schools with pupils with SEN in Gloucestershire
- to increase the amount of out-of-hours learning to achieve the Government’s targets for daily physical activity for young people
- to work in partnership with other agencies, School Sports Partnerships, Councils and organisations to set up opportunities for families, parents and the local community
- to provide opportunities for young people to showcase their work, raising the profile and standard of dance activity across the county
- to nurture positive disabled role models by employing disabled artists
- to enable young people to improve their mobility, confidence and life skills through dance
- to break down barriers, enabling disabled young people to access mainstream dance activity
