velcro dance company history

Velcro was born out of a short project by the then one-and-only established disability dance touring company (CandoCo) in 1995. The project developed into a recreational dance activity for teenagers which then became the established company of adults.

Velcro is led by Louise Porlock, GD’s Inclusion Manager.

The most recent project that Velcro undertook resulted in the creation of two new pieces of work: I am here and A Long Walk to Freedom.

In 2007/08, the company performed to audiences of 1,215 and delivered 645 workshops. In 2008/09, the company reached a further 98 people with its performance and education work.

The company has performed at national events including the PCT South West Health Conference, Kaleido disability arts agency’s launch event, and at the 2008 Disability Conference at LIPA, Liverpool.
