youth companies

County Youth Companies - Talent Development

The companies aim to:

  • give a taste of life in a dance company
  • increase confidence in performing, leadership, collaborative working and choreography
  • give an understanding of different techniques, styles and approaches in contemporary / urban dance

Company members enjoy:

  • regular classes in Gloucester with experienced dance artists
  • residencies and intensive days with professional choreographers and dance companies
  • performance opportunities and a chance to share skills with other youth companies
  • a theatre visit and an introduction to the work of professional choreographers

Company membership for Gd:Youth Co and Gd:Urban runs from September – May. Weekly classes are held at City Works, Alfred St, Gloucester GL1.

Gd:Youth Company (13 - 21 year olds)

Teaching is focused on contemporary dance technique.  You may have a background in any style, eg. South Asian, ballet or ballroom, and may or may not have studied at private dance school.

Gd:Urban (10 - 17 year olds)

Gd:Urban aims to introduce members to a range of styles and techniques including break dance, hip hop, locking and popping, urban contemporary and martial arts. Experience in at least one of the styles above would be expected, whether through school, a youth group, dance classes or practising in front of your bedroom mirror!

Company INC

A creative dance course for talented disabled dancers from across the county held at Milestone School, Gloucester.

Company INC members are talent spotted / nominated through our extensive work on the Gd:Velcro disability programme (click here to read about Gd:Velcro aims). 

GD Open-Access Dance Courses (for 11-19 year olds)

New courses run from September 2010 - March 2011.

Gd:Future Bodies (Stroud)

5.30-7pm on Tuesdays (term time) at Stroud Youth Centre

Join GD’s associate artist and professional choreographer Marie-Louise Flexen to develop your creativity in contemporary dance. 

Gd:Roots (Forest of Dean - in association with Wyedance)

time and venue tbc

Experience a range of dance styles, explore creativity and enhance technique with dancer / choreographer Sarah Gardiner.

Gd:ID (Gloucester)

5.30-7pm on Tuesdays at The Kingfisher Centre, Moor Street, Tredworth, Gloucester

Learn about a range of black and contemporary dance styles and create your own dance “ID”! Led by teacher / choreographer Annet Richards Binns.

GD @ The Roses (Tewkesbury)

5.15 - 6.45pm on Mondays at The Roses Theatre, Sun Street

Get a flavour of a range of different dance styles and contemporary technique with GD's top dance teachers.

Gd:C (New youth group in Cirencester)

Join and help shape this exciting new company.

ALL THESE COURSES ARE GENEROUSLY SUPPORTED BY GLOUCESTERSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL.

If you don't get in to one of GD's county youth companies, we will endeavour to signpost you to alternative dance training and opportunities.

    - Terpsichore Youth Dance Company (Gloucester City & S Tewkesbury School Sports Partnership.
  • use our search tool in 'classes & events' for other Gd:Youth courses, local classes and dance clubs to improve your dancing and prepare you for next year’s auditions! Some dance businesses, such as Coady Crew and Variations also have high quality performance groups.
